It is widely thought that a stereotypical electric or hybrid car owner is one of two kinds of people. The first is an elderly male who is either too old, or afraid to drive too fast and thinks that they will be safer in a car that runs on little or no gas. The second is a rich man or woman who feels high and mighty and almost better than everyone else in the knowledge that they are doing their bit for the environment, with little effort.
This need not be the case. Electric cars are ideal for almost anyone. Given a few more years, manufacturers could even have produced 4×4s run on batteries and then everybody will be happy. The EV world has come a long way since it’s begginning, costs are coming down and vehicles are easy to get hold of. With the environmental concieousness rising, everyone is looking for some way to help keep the world ‘ticking’ for a few more years, and driving a battery powered car is a good way to start.
The prices of electric cars are still very high, but soon they will start falling. Think about an electric vehicle when you decide to upgrade or replace your current car. By 2010, there will be so many choices available that everybody will be spoilt for choice.

Let’s hope this becomes reality. So far I have a feeling that the oil lobby will do whatever it can to prevent a breakthrough in electric vehicle production. They have been screwing the world for decades and will continue to do so for many more…
Opec has got the world by its balls and from time to time they feel like squeezing a bit, making indutrialized nations squeal.
I need a new car but I’m not going to by another gas guzzling or pseudo clean (hybrid) vehicle. I’ll wait… and hopefully not for too long…

The third class of people who would buy and electric car is the person who is tired of cow towing to OPEC Big Oil and wants to get weaned off of high priced fuel.

I have to disagree, witht he two types of people there are far more people that would buy Electric cars but it would seem that with the new cars on the market (tesla) they seem to be aimed at the supercar market. While thats a bad thing (due to the price tag and economics) it certainly gets rid of the golf cart and milk float image - or that of the kids cars, or if I stoop so low as to say the disabled electric wheelchair?
If electric cars were priced the same as a regualr car, then it would be a no brainr to buy one. I think that most people think that they need a car that travels 300 miles on a single charge not thinking or the actual miles that they do drive in reality.
I think its the logic of a tank of fuel will drive me 300 miles but a full charge will take me 100 miles, How can I use a car like that? when really they should be thinking as, if I drive 100 mile in gas car it will cost $XX but in a EV it will cost $XX and they save money.
Charging is also an issue, where to go and what about distance traveling? AC’s package l-ion gives around 125miles and a 1.25 hour chage time, Lipo’s can charge faster and have more power but are known for not being stable (they exsplode if charged wrong) If we could get around the 200 mark and a charge time of 50 minutes, then traveling would be simpler for many as they drive, stop somewhere to get something to eat while charging the car and off they go again.
Also marketing, its impotant and I only happen to catch some of the information of production cars by chance as its not widly known or published, so the average person isnt really going to know about Pure EVs as it seems to be centered of Hybrids, and many of them put down the use of batteries as a viable mean of power..
So, families would buy them purely on economics of the running costs.
Executes and celebs would buy them for the green image they want to portray.
Eco warriers would want the for the good that they do for the enviroment.
If they can bring the price to the sub $15,000 then we may see the next gen of drivers opting for these EV’s over fossil fuels.
Personally, I think we are in the age of the hybrid’s and we arent going to see production EVs for atleast another 10 years, and its got nothing to do with us not having the technologies to do it now

I believe converting a car to electricity is a great idea. It’s important to take a variety of sources in order to come up with best practice techniques. I would do a little more research on the author before buying the book. Changing to an electric car is a great way to save money and help the environment at the same time. In order to save even more money, consider making your home more efficient and changing electricity suppliers.Everything we can do to lower our bills can help us survive during difficult times, plus everything we can do to lower our usage can help our planet survive as well.
